reflecting on my work and self

Life is short, art long, opportunity fleeting, experience treacherous, judgement difficult
-Hippocrates 400 B.C.

I am currently reading Art and Fear and it is blowing my mind with its straightforward truth! I know unconsciously that the artistic life is a difficult one, that I leave things unfinished by jumping from one idea to the next and wondering what is the point of it all....well now I am seeing answers, and if not solutions, than explanations for my reality.
Setting aside doubt seems to be the key for me.
Being able to see past uncertainty and fear and press through. Learning to accept myself, flawed as I am, and use the only voice I have to speak.

I have made a lot of goals for this month of January. I didn't want to make them too hard or last too long, simply because they need to be manageable. And these aren't resolutions in the general sense. That being that I'll putter out and quit half way through the endeavor. No, I mean to succeed.
And now I have help from new and old friends. More and more I realize how leaning on others is not a bad thing at all! We need the help of others to see our true potential! I would like to thank the Lord for opening my eyes and ears. For giving me parents and friends who speak his truth to me. The One who is in me is greater than the one who is in the world. I take great courage from that.

This break has really relaxed me from the frenzy of college studies and tests. That all seems like sooo long ago. Much longer than just two weeks ago.
I love being home. Sometimes I just want this to keep on forever. I want to be comfortable and wake up every morning in my bed. Be with people who know me better than I know myself. No second guesses. But life isn't easy like this. And if it was, where would be the real enjoyment? The only reason it all seems so sweet right now is because of the knowledge that it won't and can't last. It is vacation.

For the past week I have spent every day with my best friend. She just left today to go back to San Diego, but I loved having her visit. She is a true sister to me. I can tell her anything. Both of us were sad when we parted today. I am back to practice driving for my license with Dad and reading a huge stack of library books the rest of the time. Not much else is going on.
One week until I fly back to school! So hard to believe that I am going back. Going to face another four months of classes and work. But it will be good. Spring semester always is.
